The
Worlds
|
 |
I performed on a very big stage saturday: the Worlds. I had
to get up very early to do that: 4.45 am. I got a shower and
some breakfast and at 6.00 we left for the warm-up track, On the
way we saw the sunrise and when we got the track it
was light. although it was so early it was already pretty busy,
there were also shot-put men and the heptathletes warming
up. At 7.20 we had to go in the callroom and there they checked
everything. Spikes, advertising, communication devices
and uniforms. At 7.45 we were at the track , they had packed our
poles in nice bleu bags and already laid out a measure
tape for us, so we could start right away. I was finished real early
with my warm-up jumps so I could let an official escort
me to the toilets. (I have to go a million times once I get nervous)
As the competition started I got over 4.00m in my first
although my jump was a bit shaky. At 4.15 somehow I didn't have
enough forward speed and landed on top of the bar,
luckily the second one was over and at 4.25 I somehow made it over
in the first without even touching it. At 4.35 the
tension lowered a bit and finally I had a nice jump. However the
pole was to soft for such a jump and the second attempt I
got on a bigger pole. I almost made it. the third attempt I was
a bit more nervous again, I kew I had to make it to go to the
finals and thinking about something like that doesn't really improve
my jumping so my third attempt was not as good
anymore.
Anyway, I think I jumped ok, especially when I think about the 4.05
that was my best this winter. So I'm improving and I
see a lot off possibilities of improving even more. I think I'm
ready for the next level. And the first thing I'm going to do is
look at that today: The womens final is up and I think it's going
to be a thriller, maybe we even see a world record!
15 august 's-Hertogenbosch: I am home again! well,actually I am still
at my parents home in the Netherlands, but tonight I'm driving to my
own home. I will not be there for long because I will be flying to
San sebastian in Spain on friday to do a competition there. In edmonton
I also watched the womens final and the men's polevault. That was
really some great jumping. Svetlana was chasing Stacey all the way
up to 4,80 which both didn't make but this wasn't strange after a
very long competition with several mistakes by the judges. And in
the men's competition I saw the second highest jumper ever in the
world, Dimitri Markov succeeded in vaulting over 6.05m wich gives
him a tie in the world alltime lists. Unluckily, I saw allmost the
whole men's competition through the videocamera, because my trainer
and my teammate wanted to use my camera-woman skills, to be able to
examine all the great jumps later. But any way, It was a wonderfull
experience and it has left me even more motivated to fly high!
