| The newly-weds.
This was my first international tournament (European championships under
23Y) and I looked forward to it. I got through the qualifications on friday
and I would have the finals on sunday. Somehow the saturday didn't really
go very well for the athletes in the dutch team, and the mood was quite
down. I think I was the only one who still had to compete and I tried
to get out off this dark mood, so I went in the woods and listened to
some nice music and just relaxed. I came back in a much better mood and
saw that there was a weddingcelebration in the motel with lots off music
and guests. Luckily the music didn't get to my room so I went to sleep.
I didn't really sleep when the newlyweds came in the room next to mine.
And then it started: first not so loud but it became louder and louder.
Although I don't understand any finnish it was very clear what was going
on at the other side off the wall. They wer having a huge fight! At the
end somebody else came and succeeded in calming them down. So I could
get some sleep.
Next day went pretty good, although I didn't jump a personal best I still
made it to third place. I could hardly believe I would see the dutch flag
raised for me and at the victory ceremony I found out I was right. They
mistook the two third places for two second places and as a concequence
they raised only three flags. But anyway, I was still very happy with
my first interational medal
