Training
for the Worlds
|
 |
23 july
somewhere between Amsterdam and Edmonton:
Jippie, I'm going to theWorld Championships in Edmonton. . Last week
I had a few comps left to try and jump 4.40, so I would qualify for
the worlds. This didn't work out but they send me anyway. The dutch
teamchef thought 4.35 was also good enough. And I thought so too,
I'm still in the best 25 here and that means I got a change to go
to the final. So I had 1 day to pack my bags and get ready. I flew
on Monday morning and now I'm at the other end of the world in Calgary.
24 july Calgary:
It's pretty nice here. I've got a huge room, actually two rooms, both
double the size of my own room at home. With two tv's both double
the size off my own little one, and a bed that is three times as big
as my own. I feel like I'm a queen! The food is also very good and
I can go on the internet for free with my own laptop in my very big
bed! (Yes I know I'm getting spoiled) We are training on 5 minutes
walk just near the olympic oval. At the moment the German iceskating
team is training there and the dutch dsb iceskating team wil be in
next week. there are also some other Athletics teams here: the Germans
(with my German coach: Leszek Klima) New Sealand, and Austria and
Swiss should also come in this week.
30 july:
I'm allready for almost a week in Calgary and haven't done much except
training (very important) eating and sleeping and getting tortured
by are Fysiotherapist (all of them also very important). Ok, I've
been on the internet, a bit to the mall and I went to see Bridget
Jones. Because she doesn't exist in Germany and I still hadn't seen
the movie. Today we were going on a trip to the Rocky mountains, but
in the training this morning I kind off twisted my ankle a bit so
it was better to stay at home if I want to do the trainingcompetition
tomorrow. So now I've got heaps off ice on my ankle and it allready
feels a lot better. It will be ok tomorrow I think and great again
in a couple off days. Maybe I get to see the rockies on tuesday morning,
then they are going again. It would a pity to miss it now I'm so close.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the comp tomorrow, I'm gonna fly.....
2 aug edmonton:
I had some problems getting on the internet, but now we moved to Edmonton
and it's alright again. So I did a training competition on Monday
and it went really well, here you can see me jumping over 4.30m! After
that I tried 4.40 and I had the feeling I was close, check it out
yourself! Herbert was so great to put the jumps on the internet already,
you an find lots more on stabhochsprung.com.
Anyway, now I can take this really good feeling into the world championships.
Tuesday a few off us went to see the Rocky Mountains, this was my
first time off and I enjoyed it very much. We rented a little motorboat
to explore lake Minnewanka (this means Spirit lake). And after that
we drove to Banff, where we took a gondelier up the Sulphur mountain
and had a beautiful view over Banff and the lake.
So that brings me to today, I did some training and after that we
drove up to Edmonton, (or down depending on how you look on it). They
put all the athletes in some hotels close to another and we eat in
one central hotel where we can also go on the internet, play pool
or computergames or exchange pins. We also got a nice bag with some
info and off course some condoms, just in case ;-)
Now, tomorrow I'll have a press conference, I'll check out the stadium
and I'll do the last little bit of training. And than, Saturday morning
at 8.45 I'll jump in the qualification, I guess they'll ask 4.40m
to get to the finals, but probably 4.35 or maybe even 4.30m will be
enough. Anyway, I'll just fly as high as I can, and I'll see where
I end up.
